In areas where Early CPR and Early Defibrillation have been widely implemented, dramatically improved results have been achieved.

Graphics (p.1-1)REALISTIC TRAINING

Successful early defibrillation programs stress training, skill competence and quality assurance. Hands on practice and training should be standardized and realistic.

The Heartstart Training System makes this possible. It provides confirmation of assessment of pulselessness, breathlessness, and unresponsiveness. The system's realistic carotid pulse is synchronized to ECG simulation and even effective CPR on the Manikin. When ventricular fibrillation, EMD or asystole are simulated, the pulse disappears. Assessment skills are sharpened with this realism.

The Hearstart is connected to the manikin and operates exactly as on a cardiac arrest patient. Special, inexpensive training electrodes can be used over and over again to help assure future electrode application will be routine, fast and well practiced.

The quality of CPR performance is displayed on Laerdal's Skillmeter so proper compression, ventilation, hand placement and sequences can be easily evaluated.

A Training System Report cap be made using the Heartstart's Medical Control features and accessory printers.

Only Laerdal integrates all the critical factors for a comprehensive approach to early defibrillation training.

MEDICAL CONTROL AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

  Graphics (p.1-3)

A quality program requires a complete approach including realistic training, standing orders, protocols, report generation, case by case review, and trend analysis. Laerdal's Medical Control Module (MCM) provided the first efficient reporting system. Today our products address each program element necessary to achieve efficient medical control and assess program quality.

Graphics (p.1-1)The Heartstart Reporter reads the MCM and provides a printed report from a standard printer or the battery operated Laerdal printer for accurate and easy post event assessment.

Graphics (p.1-2)The Heartstart MCU Tape Player replays continuous ECG and voice recordings from the Heartstart 2000. Operator confidence, command of scene, coordination of care and other event circumstances can be easily audited. Recordings provide model "runs" for new students and allow improvement in training and continuing education. A continuous ECG of the entire event can be viewed on a standard patient monitor or printed on a strip chart recorder.

Graphics (p.1-9)The Heartstart Data Manager is a computer program for filing and analyzing data from use of the Heartstart 2000.  Information stored in the MCM can be downloaded to a personal computer (IBM or compatible) from the Heartstart Reporter, or Laerdal Monitor Interface. Data, such as response times, patient history and other system variables, can be entered by the computer keyboard.

A complete standardized printed record of each case is generated. Built-in analysis programs track trends and averages necessary to form judgments about the overall program.

Excellence should be your priority in early defibrillation from program implementation to trend analysis. Only Laerdal has the means to help you achieve this objective.

Early Access

Time is the most critical factor in combatting sudden cardiac arrest. Even seconds are precious.

It is vital that people in your community be educated to immediately recognize the signs of a heart attack. The faster they can call for Emergency Medical Services, the greater the victim's chances of survival.

Early CPR

CPR alone rarely restores heartbeat in primary cardiac arrest. But CPR immediately initiated maintains oxygenation of vital organs, such as the brain and heart. This is vital if later defibrillation and drug therapy are to be effective.

Early Defibrillation

Rapid application of defibrillation cannot be overemphasized. If the victim receives CPR within four minutes and defibrillation follows within 8-12 minutes, there is a significantly better chance the victim will survive.

One of the keys to early defibrillation is to have first responders and EMT's available with defibrillators that are simple to operate. Heartstart defibrillators help to ensure that more people can be trained and equipped to respond to cardiac arrest emergencies.

Early ACLS

Advanced Cardiac Life Support, such as medications and airway stabilization by pre-hospital paramedic or rapid in-hospital care, increases the chances of survival even further.

Only Laerdal Medical supports all the links of this Chain of Survival with state-of-the-art training materials and equipment, defibrillators and other therapeutic equipment. We are proud to present Heartstart 2000 and our complete system for training, medical control and quality assurance.
